Erato-cize This
Phew. March is over. So far I don't have any shows opening in April, but you can still catch my art in 3 places!
WCALA's Femme Fest will be up until April 7th, you can see it at Jazz & Heritage Gallery (1205 N Rampart St) Monday-Friday 9AM-5PM.
e(MERGE) will be up until April 29th at Mimi's in the Marigny (2601 Royal St) any day after 6PM.
If you missed Burlesque Imitates Art's big event this past Saturday, I'm sorry for you, because it was AMAZING. You can still see the art portion up at Bar Redux (801 Poland Ave) until May 1st. Since it was the premier of all the art pieces and burlesque performances, I can now show y'all my piece:
If you get a chance, I would recommend going to see it in person, since it's an interactive piece.
The muse I was asked to portray was Erato, the muse of love and erotic poetry. My partner for the show, Queenie O'Hart, and I tossed around some ideas about the true role of a muse. We asked ourselves if the muse of love has actually been in love and what if being a muse isn't who she is but what she does for work. In the end I decided to make it interactive to express the dual sides we were trying to portray. On the outside, on the curtain, Erato is dancing and laughing along with her muse "symbols"; the lyre, roses, and turtle doves. On the inside, Erato can't be bothered by you. The inside is also painted on a mirror so you, too, can be Erato.
