Watch Me: Do the Stanky Leg
Currently working on my best Frida Kahlo impression. Unfortunately, my eyebrows don't seem to grow in fully like hers, probably because I'm not luscious or mexican. Luckily, though, I only have a broken leg and was not in a horrific bus accident. In case this if your first notice of this, I was rollerskating at my niece's birthday party on July 3rd and turned a weird way; ended up locking my left leg while the rest of me twisted and fell. I have a distal tibia fracture right at the bottom of my tibia, near my ankle and I fractured my fibula at about the middle of it. I've just got my hard cast on and still have a good 8-10 weeks to go before I can even think about putting any weight on it. So I've been using crutches and the lovely Nick loaned me a wheelchair so I can be more independent and still go to one of my jobs.
Not only does this drive my overly manic self crazy, but having to rest so much and not being able to work regularly for so long is probably going to drain me financially. That said, right now is a wonderful time to commission me to paint/graphic design/etc since I have lots of time to focus on art at the moment. I just finished designing a logo for a new PR firm, that I can't share just yet. I'm about to get to work on a large scale flower painting that's going to be a birthday gift. I recently finished a going away painting gift on an old broken bowl:
But really, I have so much time and unspent energy right now, I would love to make more paintings during my recovery process.
A couple years ago, I displayed my self-portrait series: Skin Is, My_____, in the yearly August exhibition in the State Archives Building in Baton Rouge, LA. This year, I was invited to show again. This will be the second showing of my more recent pieces from Telegraphing that were finished last year. I'm really excited to have them displayed again, they've been hanging in my house since the Tulane Film and Arts Festival, and they have much more of an impact in person than through the computer. The show opens on August 1st and will be up through September.
Opening Reception of the State Archives show:
August 1st, 2015
1:00PM-3:00PM
Louisiana State Archives
3851 Essen Lane
Baton Rouge, Louisiana 70809
I would love to see some familiar faces there! The large-scale prints will be for sale during/after the exhibit.
