COOL things just past the horizon
This week contained quite a series of unfortunate events while also having some really fun and great work opportunities. I'm currently updating this on my friend's computer, because my computer is with Apple getting fixed. (apparently all 2011 macbook pros are having video card failure around now, so be aware).
Besides that, I finished my utility box for CVU NOLA on Sunday! I got a lot of people driving and walking by complimenting it and only one strange person telling me that my piercings are going to give me cancer so all in all it was a great time. I'm hoping to find the time in the next few weeks to design another one and hopefully will get to paint more boxes in the future! If you want to check it out in person, it's on the corner of Tulane Ave and LaSalle right by Tulane Medical's Emergency Room entrance:
If you're interested in the project, CVU NOLA is also holding a fundraising event on Oct 3rd at Treo Gallery 3835 Tulane Avenue from 6-9 PM. Minibox replicas will be available to bid on so you can own your own tiny replica of the utility boxes!
Last week I started working with The COOL Cooperative as one of their new 7th grade instructors. COOL is a nonprofit organization that provides a free afterschool program to kids in the Algiers Charter School system. They start in 7th grade learning the basics of storytelling, character development, film analysis, etc and we follow with them through 12th grade. This is the 2nd year of the program and we're hoping that once the kids graduate, they'll have developed a library of different skillsets they can use in the film industry. I'm super excited to be working with them for this school year and will hopefully be with the program for a while.
Last but certainly not least, I have 2 little fleur paintings for sale, $40 each:
OR you could always pick a 3rd painting (or 1 of these and 2 more) for $100
