So This is the New Year
I've never been big on making New Year's resolutions. I mostly feel like if I want to change something in my life, I should start building those habits whenever it comes up. So I definitely make resolutions, but whenever I feel like it. That said, it's hard to get through the mess that is December and not come into January without thinking about making some sort of changes. New Years is like a birthday, a nice time to reflect on the past year and think about what you want to change in the future.
2016 was a wreck, literally and figuratively. I had some pretty major events happen, like a car wreck, and I've also witnessed a lot of trauma happening to those around me. In those ways, I'm one of those people that couldn't wait to leave 2016 behind. At the same time, 2017 terrifies me. Hopefully, I'll be prepared. I've started up some interesting things already like a burlesque/art collaboration. I've also committed to a yoga training (I've already started my reading which freaks out my procrastinator brain). I'm working on my Reiki certification as well. This next year will definitely be interesting and I'm making a lot of commitments to the things that keep me healthier; like taking this Complicity Cleanse and reading fun kids' books like A Series of Unfortunate Events.
Last year, I painted 18 paintings and in 2015 I painted 27. For a moment, I got down on myself for not making more, but I quickly reminded myself that 18 is still a lot. Here's to making more!
This was my last painting of 2016! A giant (3ftx5ft) pet portrait for Tracey Duncan! You can see my car trunk open behind it, it's longer than the width of my car and almost as tall as the trunk!
This was a commission for Tracey's wife's christmas gift of their 4 cats and 2 dogs. You can see an etching of their wedding photo in the center above the couch. I delivered it on Christmas Eve's Eve and we covered it until the reveal on Christmas day. I'm still waiting for the meta picture of them all on the couch in front of the painting.
Cassie had me paint another fleur for her during her visit last month. These are always just sweet paintings to create in an afternoon.
