This Year's Theme: Trying to Try

I've kicked it into high-gear these past few weeks after finding out about a Mixed Media Submission for the Slidell Cultural Arts Center due on Monday, May 5th. I dropped off my submission this weekend. I included 2 works that I had already had and decided to finish a piece that I had never gotten past starting.  I also started working on an altered book that I had prepared a while back and had a theme for it. I'm sticking with the original theme and planning to continue working on it. I've gotten quite a few thumbnails done for most of the pages. I tried to possibly finish it for the Mixed Media Submission, but I knew that was a lofty goal. If you're unfamiliar with altered books, they're usually done with an old hard-back book that you then cut out extra pages, Yes! paste pages together to make a sturdier surface, possibly cut into different pages, and usually Gesso over as well to have a well prepared surface. However, depending on how many pages you have, the process can be a bit daunting(it takes a LOT of drying time for each process). My book will have 10 pages which means 10 separate pieces all in one book. Even though I knew I wouldn't finish it in time for submission, I'm quite proud of myself for trying and for really getting a lot of work done these past weeks. I guess not having the internet at home for a month has really helped...

Here's the pieces that I put in for Mixed Media Submission:

Ma Clelie (2012) [paint, ink, earring]

    A-Heads (2012) [plexi-glass, polymer, ink, paint]

Fingertips (2014) [polymer, photgraphy, magazine, paint, ink]

I'll find out May 8th if any of my submissions were accepted!
