Projects in Process
Once upon a time, I was having a silly discussion about vagina peaches and somehow sprung from that was an idea to create a series of paintings of nudes with their genitalia exchanged for different produce. I've already begun collecting photographs and sketches of a variety of fruits and vegetables for this project and am now looking for nude models. Depending on your comfort level, I would prefer full nudity, but different things can be discussed. While I will be using sketches of you as a basis for this project, the paintings are not intended to be likenesses of anyone. Models must be able to sit in one position for an extended period of time and able to return closely to the original position after breaks. All body types are welcome. You will only be sitting for sketches and a few photographs (we will sign a contract stating that these photos are for reference only and will never be posted or viewed by anyone but myself).
I'm playing with the idea of a gender binary, we use the term man or woman; vegetable or fruit, to describe certain things. No one really argues about how many different fruits and vegetables there are and how different they are to one another (except maybe the tomato), yet when it comes to ideas of man and woman, everyone has an opinion on what qualifies which. We need to find a way to accept that there are many different ways to be either gender or even in between. In general, fruits are more yonic and vegetables are more phallic in shape, but many don't fall into either of these visual categories. Using a multitude of different shapes that still fall under fruit or vegetable and equating only fruit to women and vegetables to men, I plan to demonstrate that gender is more than a binary.
I've been collecting photographs and doing life drawings of produce and now I'm REALLY ready to start collecting nudes that I can work with to combine them and create these paintings.
These are just a few examples of drawings I have. I have a literal cornucopia of drawings and photographs of produce.
Today, I'm going to be putting an album up of older art on facebook in an attempt to sell/auction some off to offset my costs of materials for this new painting series. If you're interested: Art for sale!
