S-L-U-T! What are we?
Self Portrait of a Slut (2012)
Photos from the Slutwalk coming soon.
I was originally concerned because New Orleans's Slutwalk was originally scheduled for October and was short-noticedly pushed back to April. It ended up being a perfect time since lately so many more of our concerns on the treatment of womyn have been in jeopardy from the growing number of government officials trying to push laws on our bodies and certain media entities have been name-calling as many outspoken womyn as they can see. It's sad that after so many other amazing Slutwalks have occurred all over the country that people are still trying to slut-shame and legislate what we do with our bodies. It's so important right now to be in the know of what the legislatures are attempting to do. From the presidential candidates to the house and senate, men are trying to take away our rights to accurate and necessary medical care. Please do research into your legislaters and into who you're going to vote for this fall.

I hate that the word "slut" is used as a slur. I think that the reclaiming of words--reminding people that they can be used not only to control, but to liberate--is the most central battle for real freedom in America today. For that specific freedom to identify yourself accurately without having to feel shame.
(Truly, I wish I was more of a slut most of the time.)
I am truly embarrassed to call myself a man, due to the way men in power behave. I don't think these things run along party lines. It might as well be every person for themself. Don't just vote, but think when you do it, and think when you vote with your cash on every other day of the year.
